FCSB qualified for the round of 16 via the playoffs. Their group phase performance wasn't actually that bad. The hosts would have been one point short of qualifying directly, with four wins, two draws and two defeats in the end almost identical to what Olympique Lyon has on their account. FCSB lost 0-4 against Rangers and 0-2 against Manchester United. They won against RFS Riga, PAOK, Midtjylland and Qarabag. The team recorded draws as well against Olympiacos and Hoffenheim. Lyon went straight into the knockout phase of the Europa League but what the French team played was somehow not really convincing. Four victories were achieved with Lyon really turning up the heat offensively here. The team won 2-0 against Olympiacos, 4-1 against Rangers, 4-1 against Qarabag and 3-2 against Eintracht Frankfurt. The guests only conceded two goals in the first half, which is impressive. They conceded six after the break, which shows that at this point their defense is weak. |
